Rent The Runway.. Rent A Designer Dress!

I think I am in love! This is probably the best site I've heard of since... ever. Anyone seen the Sex & the City movie? Where Carrie hires an assistant who rents designer bags? Rent the Runway is the same concept, except for dresses. And earrings. And necklaces. And purses and clutches. Let me walk you through it!

I know the picture is hard to see, but this is just a little portion of the designer list they have available. They have Dolce & Gabbana, Vera Wang, Alberta Ferretti, Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, and Herve Leger, just to name a few!

In the picture above, I have an arrow showing the price ranges. Yes, it costs anywhere from $50-250 to rent dresses and accessories worth hundreds or thousands. (Yes, thousands!)

When you find a dress you like, step one says to enter in your area code. Step two is to pick a size, and they will send you one extra size for free, just in case the sizes run a little different than you anticipated! Step three has you pick the date of the event you will be renting the dress for. You can rent for 4 days, or 8 days for an additional fee.

Above is a picture of just a few of the jewelry options. With each dress they offer accessory recommendations.

Rent the Runway Questions and Answers!

Q: How much does it cost to mail what I rent?
A: Nothing! RTR will send you a pre-paid envelope to return the items when you are done with them.

Q: What about damages? Will I have to pay full price?
A: RTR handles dry cleaning for the dresses, and offer a $5 insurance that covers any food or drink spills, stick a zipper, or lose a charm or stone from an accessory.

Q: Will the items I rent be used?
No! They will be cleaned and prepared for you alone. Once they have been returned by a renter, they are retired from Rent the Runway.

Q: If used items are "retired", does that mean what's available now might not be available later?
Basically, yes. This is why you should enter the date of your event when searching. Some may not be available after certain dates. Also, that means new dresses and accessories are being added all the time!

Q: How much does it cost to join Rent the Runway?
A: It is absolutely free! I love it, and I think you will too. :)
